Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

I’ve always wanted to go the the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, and this year, I made that dream come true on a road trip with my sister and my roommate. It was truly unbelievable. Check out my photos from the balloon fiesta and my rookie tips to make it the best experience if you ever head out to New Mexico for the big event.

Balloon Fiesta Tips:

  • Go with the flow. We showed up Saturday night for the Night Glow session, and it was cancelled because of wind. But we got awesome fried food (see below) and watched a killer fireworks show. Make the most of it. The Sunday morning mass ascension was so worth it.
  • Dress warmly. Most people underestimate how chilly Albuquerque can be in October. Layer up. You won’t regret it, especially if you are at the park at the wee hours of the morning for a mass ascension.
  • Take pictures, but also take it in. Yes, I snapped a ton of pictures when the balloons started going up, but I also took some breaks to just walk around and enjoy it all. You’ll get the perfect Instagram picture, don’t worry. But don’t miss the real event.

Oh, and that carnival food that made Saturday night’s cancellation better? We tried fried cheesecake and funnel cake, and it was oh so good.
