Garcia’s Cafe

New Mexican food is my love language, and Garcia’s speaks it fluently.

My mom is an Albuquerque native, and I’ve been going to Garcia’s on Central since I was a little girl. #blessed. They’ve got the cheapest, best burritos around.

Ok, so let’s talk burritos.

Garcia’s has a lot of options for this New Mexican food staple, but the way to go is to smother whatever you choose in green chile. I guess you could also get red chile, but everyone knows red chile is for heathens. Garcia’s green chile burritos are cheap and absolutely huge, with big fluffy tortillas that hold everything together. My favorite burrito has tender carnitas inside and a topping of cheese and green chile with just the right balance of spicy kick and flavor. How divine.

If only I could have a green chile burrito every day. If only.

Oh, and then you’ve got to order a basket of warm and fluffy sopapillas. I’m always surprised by how many people have never heard of sopapillas, but if you think of them as really puffy fry bread, you’re on the right track. Drizzle your sopas with a big ole bottle of honey, or use them to soak up all that green chile sauce. Oh my.

Fresh sopapillas. What more could ya want?

Garcia’s has a ton of locations in Albuquerque because they know how to make people like me blissfully happy, but I always go to the original location at 1736 Central Ave SW in Albuquerque, NM.

Nobody makes a green chile burrito like Garcias!! I agree with the Central location. Got to have the setting in the old building. It makes the food taste even better!!
